Sometime later I discovered DriveCleanup fromĪnd running this tool showed that there were way more drives than I had expected, so I ran it too. On some forum it was suggested that deleting some files (and unfortunately I don't remember what they were, but they were in c:\windows\driverstore ) This didn't work In Device Manager, but it refused to connect with Windows Explorer (ie., no drive letter). I had reached a situation where plugging my Camcorder's USB into the PC would cause the Camcorder to be recognized I got to this situation because I stupidly followed online forum advice about fixing a problem with connecting my Canon digital camcorder. ![]() Despite the fact that the needed device driver (*.sys) filesĪre in the driverstore, I still get a fail on the installation because Windows couldn't find the files in c:\windows\inf\ How can I get windows to use the "normal" search path for device drivers? I have got to a situation where, when installing a device needing the USB Mass Storage Driver, Windows looks for the *.sys files in c:\windows\inf directory instead of the DriverStore directory. ![]() I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Home Premium.
